No matter if you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced beginner - we have all been stuck in the washing machine for what felt like an eternity. You know you should relax but your mind and body won't allow you and you start panicking and fighting the water.
Here are three tips from our head coach Lin, how to survive a wipeout:
1. do not fight the water, because fighting it will burn your oxygen quicker whilst achieving nothing. Keep yourself in a protective position and don't tense while you wait for the water to calm down
2. use visualisation as a tool to put your mind somewhere else in the meantime, for example think about your favorite food or you favorite place
3. most importantly, learn more about breath training, which will teach you about the psychological and physiological changes in your body during stressful situations. This will let you know the limits of your body and yourself which will ultimately lead to a better confidence
If you want to learn more about breath training, we offer a Surf Survival workshop designed for surfers of all levels in our Kima surf camp in Canggu, Bali. Find out more below.
In this workshop you will train and improve your physical and mental skills when surfing in more challenging conditions in order to develop confidence, self awareness and self control.
