The cultural trip to the east side of the island will introduce you to some historical places of Bali: the Besakih Temple and the Kerta Gosa. The Besakih Temple also known as the “Mother Temple of Bali”, is over a thousand years old and a big complex of at least 86 clan temples and shrines. It has 3 main temples dedicated to the Hindu trinity and many other smaller temples to visit. In Semarapura, the main town of the Klungkung regency in East Bali Kerta Gosa is located. It is a part of the Puri Semarapura royal palace complex. The Kerta Gosa Halls are the remaining structures after the defeat against the Dutch military expedition in 1908 and impress with traditional Balinese and unique architecture as well as many different paintings in Kamasan style.
