Pick the right board!
Choosing the right board is key to a successful surf journey. At Kima, we offer a wide variety of surfboards from beginner to advanced matching your skills, level and needs. We also offer our Premium Surfboard's - a collection of boards from different high-performance and quality brands.

Wondering which session suits you best? Our custom-built Six-Star Session Planner makes it easy! Ranging from 1 star for beginners, who are still staying in the white water to 6 stars for advanced surfers, our session planner makes it really easy for you to find and sign up for your daily surf sessions. On top our head coaches and surf guides are always there to assist you in picking the perfect level that fits with your skills and goals.
The 1-star sessions are also available for those who just finished the Learn To Surf Program or are still on it.
Make sure you sign in 1 day in advance until 8PM, you can sign in 2 days in advance, giving you the flexibility to plan ahead. In the surf planner, you’ll find the session times, levels, information about the breaks and the names of the surf guide and guest you’ll be surfing with.
We offer 1 morning session and 1 afternoon session. The start time of the session depends on the tides and given conditions, sometimes beginning as early as 6 am, but also around 8:30 am. With a break of 2-3h in between you have enough time to rest, recharge, join a yoga session and restore your energy for the next surf session!
On some days we also offer surf day trips. This means you head to a surf spot that is in general further away. You’ll check the spot, surf your first session, have lunch together and jump back in the water or check out another spot for your second session! Another guest’s favourite are our boat trips to the outer reefs, expanding your surf adventure even further!
Two Daily Surf Sessions - but safety first!
When you’re staying at Kima surf, expect two daily surf sessions. Our professional surf guides select the best surf spots around Bali and Sri Lanka based on tides, conditions, and swells. Safety is our top priority, and we always check the surf spot before making a decision.
In case conditions aren't ideal for surfing, we've got you covered with pool sessions in our training pools around the camp. Jump in the pool with a surfboard and your surf guide, and improve your skills to paddle, pop-up, turtle roll or duck dive. You can also choose to join a classroom on one of the various surf topics instead.
Classrooms: Learn more about the Theory behind the surf!
Join our classrooms three times a week and learn more about the theory behind surfing! Of course, practice makes perfect and the best way is to go into the water and just surf! But like most things, surfing has rules and theories that you should learn to keep you and others safe in the water. Your Kima Package includes learning about five different topics:
Surfing is by far our favourite sport and we are happy to see it’s gaining more and more popularity! Safety is the reason why surfing etiquette exists. Some main unwritten rules and do’s and don'ts everyone should know and follow while being in the water. These rules apply to all line-ups in the world and are meant to avoid accidents, injuries, and misunderstandings, so we all can enjoy our time in the water to the fullest. Reading the wave is a skill that comes with time and experience, the more time you spend in the water and the more you surf different types of waves the better you will be at it. Before actually learning how to read a wave you must learn about surf breaks: types of surf breaks, how they work, and what type of wave they can generate. Enhance your wave-reading skills for a positive impact on your surfing.
Surfing is not just about physical powers; it requires theoretical understanding for safety and optimal wave-catching. Reading the surf forecast is crucial for being at the right spot at the right time, a skill that every surfer should have, and we help you to learn it. The forecast involves Swell, Swell Height, Swell Period, Wind, and Tides.
4. Everything about the swell and tides
Go more in depth about the meaning of swells and tides. What are they, how do they exist and how to read them well to let them work for your best surf! Discover the science behind these elements and how they contribute to your surfing experience, making you ride the waves with confidence and safety.
5. Different types of surfboards
As diverse as the sea and its waves are, as diverse are the different surfboards that the market offers. They come in various shapes and designs, each tailored to different wave conditions, surfing styles and surfing levels. Explore the five basic categories—from shortboards, fish boards and longboards, to funboards and guns.

Video Analysis - Watch your surf!
There's no better way to improve your surfing skills than by practising in the water and reviewing your sessions through videos. That's why every day, some of our surf sessions are recorded! While we strive to accommodate all our guests in video analysis, limited space is available, so secure your spot by signing up early. The camera behind the surf session means that one of our cameramen is there to catch your surf session!
During the video analysis the same day, one of our surf guides will analyse the waves you caught, the ones you missed, and even the wipeouts during your session. He will explain what you need to improve and how to improve, so you are ready for your next session. After the video analysis, we will provide you with the videos, so you will have some nice content to send home or post on your socials!
