Finding the surfboard that fits you, your skills, and your goals is one of the most important things to have a good surf session. Amidst the wide range of different sizes, shapes and types, it's hard to figure out which board is the right one for you.
Also at Kima, we have plenty of different boards to choose from. From 8.6 feet soft tops for beginners to high-performance boards for intermediates from high-quality brands like Haydenshapes, NSP, Flowt or Ocean & Earth.
After a small talk with our experienced surf guides in our camps, they’ll point you to the best board, so you can enjoy the waves as much as possible.
When choosing your surfboard there are 4 main questions you need to answer:
The skills and experience you may already have, are the most decisive points. Normally, the smaller the board is the harder it is to catch the wave with it. We make sure that you won’t get a board that’s too small for your surf level.
As a beginner who has never surfed before and is joining our Learn-to-surf-school, you’ll receive a soft top from our camp’s board rental with lots of volumes. It will help you to learn how to surf safely. It provides you stability, makes it easier to take off, to enter the wave and above all, lowers the risk of hurting yourself with the board.

If you have intermediate paddle skills, you’re able to catch green waves alone without being pushed by an instructor and surf in both directions, you can join our 3-star level sessions. In this case, we would choose a mid-length hard top surfboard for you to further improve your take-off and turning abilities.
For our high intermediate guests we of course also have a wide range of shortboards to the size of 5.10 feet.
Even though people sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable answering the question about their weight, it’s important to determine your board’s size and volume. This is why we’re asking for your weight in advance during your booking process.
Surfing is a sport that also demands good fitness in general. Especially for paddling you need a lot of strength. A board with more volume will help you to make the paddling easier. As you get stronger at paddling, you can advance to a smaller board.

The last factor we take into consideration is also what type of waves you want to surf and what conditions you enjoy surfing in. Rather bigger or rather smaller waves? Rather fast rides or better-relaxed cruising?
However, in the end, there is not only perfect shape for all waves and conditions.
Thus as you progress and want to surf different styles, we give you the possibility to change your board as often as you want to progress and reach your goals.
Did you also know that we have our shaper manufacturer that can create your customized surfboard according to your wishes?! You can book this add-on together with your stay or just contact our front office team during your stay in one of our camps.
