Situated in the Southern tip of Bali, Uluwatu is lined by stunning coastlines and white sand beaches, blue waters, dramatic cliff tops and epic surf breaks. Uluwatu is characterised by a combination of surf culture, luxurious cliff top villas and resorts all still with a touch of local Balinese charm. Uluwatu is a magnet for talented surfers coming to surf at one of the best surf spots in Bali like the world-renowned waves at Padang Padang, Impossibles and Uluwatu! Honeymooners seeking clean beach front resorts, and solo travellers coming to explore the variety of beaches and nightlife.

Uluwatu’s beaches are very clean and picturesque. The most famous being Padang Padang which was used in the film “Eat, Pray, Love.” Padang Padang is a beautiful beach with limestone cliffs and turquoise waters and between here you can find some flawless waves in the peak season months of June to September, rolling with left hander barrels which makes it a perfect spot for surfers from around the world. Besides producing waves of all surfers dreams, Padang Padang is also home to one of Bali’s most famous surf competitions, the Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang. And to top this all off, Padang Padang is a lovely beach to chill for the day, sunbathe and have a dip in the clear waters. The beach is reached by walking down a couple of stairs through the scenic limestone caves but watch out for the cheeky monkeys along the way!

In between Padang Padang and Uluwatu Beach you can find Thomas Beach, which is nestled between vegetation away from the main road, also reached by walking down a few stairs. Thomas Beach is unique because of its larger sandy areas, making it more spacious for relaxing on the beach and it is a lot more quiet compared to other beaches in Uluwatu. At Thomas Beach you can spend your day sunbathing and taking a dip in the sea, with no dangerous currents to be aware of, you can simply float the day away in these clear turquoise waters. Thomas beach has some great beginner friendly waves, however the waves are sometimes so small that this area doesn't work. If there are no waves, you can even rent a kayak or stand up paddle board and explore the deeper waters.

Dreamland is perfectly situated halfway between Balangan Beach and Bingin Beach. Another clean white sand beach with turquoise waters lined by the limestone cliffs. Dreamland Beach is one of Bali’s famous surf spots on the South Coast. Dreamland’s waves are fun and on most days suitable for all levels. It is an A frame beach break perfect for those learning to surf. As the name suggests, the beach is super dreamy, and not just great for surfing but also a perfect spot for relaxing, tanning, and enjoying dips in the sea. It is easily reached by scooter or car.

Uluwatu is also home to some temples worth visiting such as Pura Luhur Uluwatu Temple, where you can experience Balinese religion and ceremonies and watch traditional Kecak dancing. Kecak dancing is an epic Balinese fire dance, where spirits are believed to possess the dancer enabling them to connect with the Gods. During their possession they are able to walk on fire and make inhuman sounds to deliver divine messages to the Gods. It highlights the art of music and sound without instrumental music. Besides surfing and cultural experiences, Uluwatu is also well known for its nightlife, with super cool Surfer’s Bar’s and beach clubs perched on the cliff above Uluwatu beach providing an ideal setting for sunset, watching the talented surfers and an evening boogie to the music of some of the world’s DJs.

Uluwatu is the perfect laid back surfers town on the South Coast of the Island! Uluwatu is arguably one of the world’s most consistent surf locations. Here you can find waves suitable to all levels from beginners, to intermediates, advanced, big waves surfers and barrel riders. Luckily here at Kima, we make surfing at this destination a reality with our Kima Boat, a wooden Indonesian outrigger canoe that is traditionally used for fishing, but now used to bring us to the surf breaks in Uluwatu. The boat is equipped with two engines (double 20hp, 4 stroke) and has space for up to 12 guests and 4 surfguides. Our boat will take you directly from Old Mans beach in front our Camp in Canggu or from Gado Gado in front of our Seminyak Camp, by ocean, to the lineup of Uluwatu’s surf breaks. Take your dry bag or borrow one from us, to keep your belongings dry on the boat. There is enough space to store your bags. So skip the traffic and paddle out from our Kima home breaks to the boat and cruise in the turquoise waters to these surf breaks, the boat will drop you at the backline ready to catch the waves of your dreams!
