Bali's rainy season is a distant memory, sunshine and bigger swells are rolling in - the high surf season has finally started! Pro surfers and the surfing community are gearing up for a season packed with adrenaline-pumping competitions, ready to witness and support these displays of talent, skill, and personality.
Get ready to feel the sand between your toes, the sun on your face and witness some of the world's best surfers battle it out on world-famous breaks at the Surf Competitions in Bali 2024.
INDONESIAN SURFING LEAGUE
The Indonesian Surfing League also known as Liga Surfing Indonesia (LSI) is the first Surfing league in Indonesia and even Asia managed by the Asian Surf Cooperative. It brings together Indonesia’s uppermost surf clubs for a competition series. These competitions aim to grow the sport of surfing in Indonesia by forming and supporting strong Surf Clubs capable of hosting events and training their surf athletes.
This year, there are a total of 16 surf clubs which will be participating in LSI. There are up to 6 divisions for both males and females: Open Men, Open Women, Grand Master (40+), Junior Boys, U10 Boy or Girl and Longboard Men & Women.
The Liga Surfing Indonesia serves as a platform to promote and expand the art of surfing throughout Indonesia. It brings together the country’s top surf clubs with an aim for all athletes to grow, learn and experience all together. The diverse range of divisions makes this competition one to be excited for. The LSI competition series consists of 5 rounds and the Grand Final started on April 20th.
SINGLE FIN CLASSIC
Another Iconic surf competition held at the Uluwatu Cliffs is the Single Fin Classic. Turn back in time for a taste of Bali's surfing roots, join this unique event on August 17th & 18th to celebrate the golden age of surfing. Pro surfers will paddle out and ride the waves on single-fin boards. Witness a different kind of skill and style as they navigate Uluwatu's challenging breaks, offering a glimpse into Bali's rich surfing history. Enjoy the view and the laid-back vibes of Uluwatu at Single Fin, the cliff-top beach club located on Suluban Beach, right in front of the surfers. This is a must-visit for any surfing enthusiast who appreciates a taste of surfing history!
RIP CURL CUP PADANG PADANG
The Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang is one of the highlights of the year in Bali, providing an amazing opportunity for famous Indonesian surfers to showcase their skills against some of the world's most renowned and talented tube riders in pumping conditions!
Located on the southwest coast of the Island of Gods, Padang Padang is one of the world-famous surf spots in Bali, known for its long barrelling left-hand waves. This is an invite-only contest, with a chosen number of the most talented underground riders as they are given an opportunity to shred in an empty line up on Padang Padang reef. While the 2023 competition, which marked its 20th anniversary, was called off due to a lack of perfect waves and conditions during the waiting period, surfers are looking forward to this year's competition!

This event is an opportunity to see the pros shred on an empty line up. One for on your bucket list and definitely a must-watch for surfing fans! The specific date is yet to be announced, as the organization waits for the perfect Indian Ocean swell. So, stay tuned for updates on the official 2024 competition date!
ULUWATU BOARDRIDERS CHALLENGE
Get ready for a laid-back showdown with incredible surfing at the Uluwatu Boardriders Challenge! Nestled against the iconic Uluwatu cliffs (one of Bali's best surf spots!). Adored for its world-class waves, stunning cliffside locations and relaxed vibes, Uluwatu, one of the best places for the best surf spots in Bali, is the perfect place for this event! This September event brings together passionate surfers from all walks of life for a friendly competition.
With different divisions and different people, including an open men’s and women’s shortboard division and a juniors division, there's a division for everyone (Open Men's & Women's Shortboard, Juniors). The Uluwatu Boardriders Challenge isn't just about winning - it's a celebration of surfing in paradise.
The Uluwatu Boardriders Challenge 2024 will showcase the best of competitive surfing, highlighting talent, athleticism and the love of surfing. Whether you are a dedicated surfer or simply appreciate the energy and fun of surf competitions, mark your calendars for this sign up event in September 2024. HALFWAY BOARDRIDERS CHALLENGE
Get ready to witness a vibrant display of surfing talent at the Halfway Boardriders Challenge! This October event transforms Kuta Beach's iconic Halfway spot (close to our Kima Camp in Seminyak) into a festival of friendly competition. Known for its long, sandy stretches and consistent beach break waves, Halfway Beach is the perfect location for surfers of all ages and abilities (Open Men's & Women's, Juniors) to show their skills. This inclusive approach ensures that the Halfway Boardriders Challenge embraces the diversity and passion within the Kuta surfing community.
The Halfway Boardriders Challenge is also a celebration of the diverse and passionate Kuta surf community. Witness the next generation surf alongside seasoned veterans, all fueled by their love for the sport. Surrounded by beachside cafes, shops and a lively surf culture, Kuta Beach’s Halfway spot offers a dynamic and energetic atmosphere for the competition.
Cheer on the surfers from the beach or the boardwalk as they battle it out in style. The Halfway Boardriders Challenge promises to be another unforgettable experience, filled with adrenaline-pumping action and a true taste of Bali's vibrant surf culture.
LOOKING FOR MORE SURF ACTION?
Bali's season is packed! Catch rising stars at Tipi Jabrik's Grom Patrol (July) and Good Vibrations Pererenan (August 17 & 18). Cheer on future champions at the Schools Challenge (August 31- September 1st), and don't miss the Lembongan Surf Team Challenge (April 17-20) showcasing Nusa Lembongan's talent!

BEYOND BALI
Looking to extend your surfing adventure beyond Bali? Indonesia also offers more exciting options outside of Bali. Krui Pro, located on Sumatra's southwest coast, throws down the gauntlet with the WSL (World Surf League) QS5000 and Krui Pro Junior WSL JQS1000 competitions (May 28th to June 4th). This might be the perfect side trip for surfers in Bali seeking a change of scenery, more remote locations and more challenging waves.
Further north in North Sumatra, Nias Island explodes with surfing action during the famous Nias Pro WSL QS5000 and Nias Pro Junior WSL JQS1000, both held at Sorake Beach (June 8th to 15th).
And last but definitely not least, don't forget about the Olympics 2024 in Teahupo'o, Tahiti! Mark your calendars for July 27th until August 8th, because that's when the world's best surfers will battle it out for Olympic gold on the legendary Tahitian reef break.
