The Bali Problem: between plastic bags and surfer’s Paradies
Everybody wants to travel to Bali to experience its wonders at least once. The Island of gods has it all, from beautiful landscapes with rice fields, tropical forests to mount Batur and lakes with their microclimates. Bali is also a popular destination for its rich and welcoming culture and world-famous surfing breaks.
As a result of all these stunning, attractive and unique characteristics, the island sees millions and millions of tourists every year
Unfortunately, waste management and sewage facilities are not yet able to keep up and organised to serve the number of people the island welcomes. Over the years, businesses like KIMA surf camps, through their initiatives, have adapted and reduced their impact to the minimum but the problem hasn’t been erased and there’s much more to do.
KIMA X SUNGAI Watch partnership
We have been looking for a partner to work with in improving our continuous contribution to reducing pollution and how it is affecting the nature and water of the island. When we came across SUNGAI Watch was a no-brainer that this would be the perfect partner. SUNGAI Watch is a registered charity and an environmental organization on a mission to stop plastic from going into the ocean. It was founded in 2020 by Gary, Kelly and Sam Bencheghib in Bali, Indonesia, Sungai Watch is now a team of 55 passionate river warriors, working every day to create solutions to stop the flow of plastic pollution from going into the ocean. By designing simple trash barriers and operating a collection, sorting and up-cycling system, they have created a scalable approach to tackling plastic pollution.
Since we love what SUNGAI Watch is doing and we want to keep our efforts to improve Bali's environment and make it clean, we will donate 1,00 USD per like and comment on our latest Instagram Post.
Additionally, as we believe this will be a long-lasting partnership and joint effort, we are committing a fixed amount per any booking in our Seminyak and Canggu camps from now till the end of March 2023.
