New Surfskate Haven at Kima Surf Canggu

Level Up Your Surf Game!

As you may have already seen on our Instagram, surfskating has been proven to improve your surfing skills significantly. Now, we're super excited to introduce our brand-new surfskate area at our Kima Surf Camp Canggu, offering you the ultimate training ground to take your surfing to the next level.

Next to our rooftop gym, which by the way has a stunning view over the ocean, we created a new surfskate area. On 64 square metres, our surfskate area features a challenging ramp designed to replicate the dynamics of wave riding. This space is perfect for practising your balance, turns, and speed.

Imagine improving your skills while enjoying an amazing ocean view where you will surf later. Surfskating adds an extra dimension to your training, challenging you to handle different waves and improve your aerial moves such as bottom turns, generating speed and cutbacks, sliding or other drills needed for surfing.

Whether you're an experienced surf or skate pro looking to fine-tune your technique or a beginner eager to learn the basics, our new surfskate is your new perfect training ground to improve your skills outside of the water between surf sessions or if the conditions won’t allow you to surf.

5 Benefits of Surfskating

1. Improve your surfing skills

The best benefit of surfskating is (surprise!) improving your surf skills! Since surfskating involves using the same motions, and muscles as surfing on the waves, it will help you improve your balance, speed, moves and overall board feel. Surfskating also adds variety and excitement to your exercise routine.

2. Year-round practice

Surfskating allows you to practise wherever and whenever (ok, you do need a good ground for it). You can improve your surfing techniques even when the waves are flat, too big or it’s too cold!

3. Injury prevention

By strengthening your core and lower body muscles, surfskating can help. When you are surfskating you engage your core, legs, and upper body. This helps to build strength, balance, and endurance. A stronger and more flexible body can help prevent common surf injuries.

4. Mental Focus and Flow

Similar to the benefits of surfing, another benefit of surfskating is the meditative experience. It helps improve focus, coordination, and awareness of your surroundings.

5. Fun and social

Surfskating is a great way to meet like-minded people and enjoy the growing surfing community and its lifestyle.

Try our new Surfskate Area: 3 Surf Drills to Improve Your Surfing

Our newest surfskate area offers you a great place to practise a variety of exercises to help you improve your surfing skills. Here are three effective exercises to try when you visit the surfskate area:

1. Basic Pumping

Start by pushing off with your back foot to gain momentum to perform this exercise. Bend your knees and pump your arms to generate speed, make sure you keep your weight centred and your eyes focused on where you want to go. Practice pumping back and forth to develop your leg strength, coordination and feeling with the movement.

2. Mastering The Ramp

Begin your ramp journey by focusing on the fundamentals. Start by practising rolling down a simple ramp without worrying about the rest of the bowl. Pay attention to your body movements, how you use your momentum, and how you control your speed.

Once you're comfortable rolling down, challenge yourself by trying to ride up the ramp. Use your momentum and body weight to ascend as high as possible. Don't worry about turning or tricks for now; focus on getting better on the basics.

3. Bottom Turn

Set up a cone or marker to 'simulate' a wave. Start by generating speed, approach the cone and initiate a bottom turn by shifting your weight to your back foot. Keep your front knee bent and your upper body angled toward the wave. As you exit the turn, extend your body and shift your weight forward.
