Bali’s dry season is just around the corner, and you know what that means, long sunny days and pumping swells are on their way! Uluwatu maintains its reputation as one of the best surf destinations in the world, and when you surf here you will understand why! Uluwatu is situated on the Bukit Peninsula, lined by dramatic limestone cliffs and clear turquoise waters, and from May this area truly comes alive. Uluwatu becomes one of Bali’s most reliable surf zones — delivering everything from playful chest-high runners to solid overhead sets during peak swells.
And to top this all off our Kima Surf Camp in Uluwatu is putting you right in the middle of all of the excitement. So grab your surfboards and get over to Kima Surf Uluwatu for the dry season swells. It is on.
The variety of surf and the power of the surf is what truly sets Uluwatu apart. The dry season marks the arrival of consistent southwest groundswells generated deep in the Indian Ocean. This delivers long-period swells, which carry a lot of energy and produce clean, powerful lines by the time they reach Uluwatu’s coastline. The result is exactly what surfers want: defined sets, longer rides, and waves that hold shape.
At the same time, the southeast trade winds begin to blow. The offshore winds produce clean open faces on the waves — holding them open and creating those glassy walls Uluwatu is known for.
Wave sizes during the dry season pick up and change from fun, manageable chest-high surf on smaller days to solid overhead conditions when larger swells arrive.
Uluwatu is not only for advanced surfers, there is a wave for every level of surfer. Kima Surf Camps will give you the right guidance to tackle these surf spots:
Padang Padang (inside) – you will find soft, friendly waves perfect for beginners on soft tops or more intermediate beginners looking to transition onto a hard top board
Dreamland – beach break providing soft and forgiving conditions for learners

Balangan - A left-hand reef break for intermediates looking to practice their cutbacks
Uluwatu (inside sections) – great for building confidence on a reef break

Uluwatu (main peak) – powerful, fast, and barreling on big swells
Padang Padang (outside) – world-class barrels on bigger swells

Uluwatu has many accommodation options from luxury cliff side villas to budget-friendly guest houses. A guesthouse is your most common form of accommodation in Bali, they are usually small, locally run properties, with private rooms and basic amenities. Often there are a few rooms located on a family-owned property. Some are modern and some are simple, there is a wide variety to choose from. Guesthouses are affordable and give you a true local experience. A “kos” is another accommodation option, normally for long-term rentals. These are typically occupied by locals or expats. They are simple rooms, with basic amenities, and not really designed for short stays or travellers. You will need to do everything yourself, from cooking to cleaning. Hotels are abundant in Bali, ranging from 3-star hotels, to boutique stays and large-scale resorts, there is something for every budget. They offer comfort, relaxation and are often fully inclusive. These stays are great for relaxation but often don't focus on surfing. Villas are a very popular option in Bali, especially for big groups or couples looking for privacy. They are modern homes, with private pools, working spaces, kitchens, lounges and more. They are affordable and provide an exclusive experience for travellers staying around for a longer period of time, however they can be isolated.
If you are coming here to surf then you should stay in a surf camp that puts you in the heart of the surf scene, it should connect you with a good surf community and also allow complete relaxation between surf sessions, and that is exactly what our brand-new Kima Surf Camps opening in Uluwatu will do for you. Kima Surf Uluwatu is opening just in time for the peak season.
