There is nothing quite like the feeling of unzipping your board bag at your surf destination, grabbing your favorite surfboard, and paddling straight out into tropical paradise. Every year, we welcome thousands of ocean lovers to our Kima Surf Camps in Bali and Sri Lanka, from all corners of the globe; Europe, Australia, US and across Southeast Asia. And many of them bring their own boards.
Getting your quiver here safely and without unexpected extra fees at check-in, is step number one.
To save you from airport gate surprises, we've put together this blog covering the biggest international airlines flying into Bali and Sri Lanka, plus a few domestic options for when you want to keep exploring once you've landed. A bit of research upfront saves a lot of money and stress at the airport!
Before we dive into airline specifics, lock these golden rules into memory:

Yes and no, it all depends on where you are launching from!
If you are flying long-haul from Europe, America, or Australia, you will often use the same major airlines for both destinations. The difference shows up once you land. Bali is a hub for domestic island-hopping across Indonesia, with a range of local carriers to navigate (more on those below). Sri Lanka has no domestic airline network. Once you touch down in Colombo, it's Sri Lanka does have a small domestic airline network, named Cinnamon Air. However, most Kima guests continue by road from Colombo to Weligama and Hiriketiya. It’s more practical and cost effective.
Bottom line: check your international carrier's policy first, that's where the fees and restrictions that really matter live.
Now here's how the top global and domestic airlines handle your board bags:
