Surf Trip Packing List for Bali & Sri Lanka

Surfboards

This is the most crucial item for your surf trip to the tropics! Bring your own boards along if you have some, but if you don’t, Kima Surf has you covered with our board rentals. For beginner surfers we have soft top boards, such as FlowT soft tops, NSP fun boards and more. For the more experienced surfers who are concerned about flying with their boards, because of extra fees or mishandling, we also have you covered with our Premium Premium Surfboard Collection, available at all our camps. Try out some high performance boards from top brands like KT surfing, WOO, Gerry Lopez, Aipa and more! We also offer board insurance, which will make your surfing experience stress-free as Kima will cover any damage expenses. If you are bringing your own surfboard along, use bubble wrap and a high quality surf bag to keep your board safe. Once you arrive we have a board room to store your board at our camps.

Fins and Leash

Spare fins and fin keys are essential for any surf trip! Having extras as back up is always a good idea. Kima Surf Camps has extra fins and leashes for our guests, but Bali and Sri Lanka have many surf shops for surfers looking to buy some quality gear, our front office team will help you get there.

Wax

Good grip is everything! When surfing the tropics it's important to match your wax to the water temperature, we recommend Sticky Bumps and Sex Wax. When you rent a board with Kima, your board comes fully waxed, so just grab your board and go! There is wax around the camp to top up. We sell wax on site at our camps as well.

Surf wear

Board shorts, bikinis, swimsuits, and rash guards are essential. So remember to pack your favourite swimsuit that has UV protection and maximal support, so that you can hit the waves, or pack light and shop Sri Lanka and Bali’s surf shops to buy some cool and high quality swim suits! Kima surf also provides rash guards to all surfers for ultimate sun protection.

Booties and ear plugs

Bali and Sri Lanka are home to some epic reef breaks which you may surf, surf booties are a great accessory for these sessions, as they protect you against the reef and rocks. Ear plugs are also a great addition to make your surf sessions safe and fun. Booties and ear plugs can be purchased on site at our camps.

Ding repair kit

Accidents happen! Either come kitted up with your own ding repair kit or get covered with Kima’s board insurance. With our insurance every damage will be repaired professionally and we cover all costs - doesn’t matter if it’s a tiny dent or a major break. Book the insurance for 5 days and your board is covered over a period of 21 days. Please note that the costs have to be borne by you if the board or parts of it get lost.

Travel insurance

Surfing is an adventure sport, which means injuries are common, that is why travel insurance is essential. Ensure your policy covers medical care, trip cancellations, lost baggage, and surfing activities. Kima Surf also offers optional cancellation insurance for worry-free planning.

Sun protection

Protect yourself from the sun. You are protected by rash guards, hats, sunglasses, zinc, and waterproof SPF. Apply often, particularly following long surfing sessions.
