Can kids surf with Kima?

At Kima Surf Camps we offer two surf sessions a day to surf spots suited to your level, based on our six-star session planner. We also have Kima Surf School which is a five day learn to surf course for complete beginner surfers. Surfing as a family is a great way to enjoy a shared passion together, here are some things parents need to know:

Please note: Kima Surf Camps reserves the right to approve or decline bookings involving underage guests on a case-by-case basis. This applies to bookings made by families as well as groups of friends.

Once your booking has been approved, here's what parents, guardians and groups travelling with underage guests need to know:

  • Surf lessons for kids: The minimum age for camp participants to join surf sessions is 18 years old (Bali and Sri Lanka). Minors can join surf sessions, but we would need written confirmation to release us from all responsibility during their stay and surf with us.
  • Beginners and experienced surfers: Beginners focus on ocean safety, paddling and standing up on the board, while more experienced children can work on their technique and build confidence.
  • Surfing together: Parents and children can surf together, provided everyone joins a session suited to the child's ability. If a child is a beginner, the family should join a beginner-level session.
  • Choosing the right conditions: Our surf team plans the schedule two days in advance, considering tides, swell, wind and each guest's surf level to select suitable conditions.
  • Age and supervision: Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian during surf sessions.
  • Lesson sizes: Private family lessons are not currently available, but surf lessons and the Learn to Surf programme operate at a ratio of one instructor to two surfers.

When booking, let our team know your children's ages and surfing experience so we can help you find the most suitable option for your family.
