1. What keeps bringing you back to Kima Surf Camps?
Heath Slater - Australia:
“What keeps me coming back to this surf camp is how easy it is to get around, to try a whole different number of surf breaks. The guides are amazing, super helpful. There's video analysis and you can see yourself improve heaps. And then obviously the social hosts and the guests here. It's an awesome environment..”

“I come back to Kima Surf because of the opportunities to go and surf different breaks and surfing here gives you the confidence to push yourself to go and try some bigger waves. The community at Kima is also great, you walk in the door and you feel like you're part of the family. It's like you've been friends with all of them and you've been here for months and months. So yeah, it just gives a really good environment like that.”
2. How has your surfing improved since your first visit?
Heath Slater - Australia:
“So since my first visit, I was really trying to get better at carves, but now I feel quite comfortable with those and now I want to get better at snaps.”
Ye Li- China:
“I think my surfing improved quite a bit. When I started out, I was not even catching waves in the white waters, and now I can catch waves by myself, even green waves in the lineup. For me, that's a huge improvement, and I feel more confident in the water.“
3. How do you feel about the variety of surf spots the camp offers? What’s your favourite spot, why?
Heath Slater - Australia:
“My favourite spot has to be Medewi, because it is a long way away, so I find it really hard to get there alone.But the guides and session there makes it really easy to get there and I'm a goofy footer and Medewi is a long left hand wave so its loads of fun!”
Jordan- Canada:
“My favorite surf spot is Green Bowl. I had a lot of fun. It was a nice right break and I'm regular so I do like my rights. And the variety here at Kima Surf is incredible because like I said, you can push yourself to try some bigger waves but you can also go into some more mellow ones and work on your technique or your form, paddling and all that kind of stuff.”
4. Do you plan to continue returning to the surf camp in the future?
Heath Slater - Australia:
“I will absolutely be back at Kima whether it's Sri Lanka or Bali because I usually try and make a surf trip every year and I love it here.”
Ye Li- China:
“Absolutely. I really love it here. I think I will keep coming back until I'm a pro surfer. I think the culture in Sri Lanka and Bali are really different. Sri Lanka has a more laid-back vibe and Canggu in Bali is more dynamic. I like them both.”
Kima’s Social Activities:
Kima Surf aims to provide a holistic surfing lifestyle, and is much about more than just surfing the waves. Our surf camps provide a fun variety of social activities daily which aim to keep guests entertained but also makes a base for meeting fellow surfers in a fun and natural environment. Both our surf camps in Canggu or Seminyak as well as Sri Lanka host daily activities included in your Kima Package. Join us for sunset beers and some jamming on the guitar following a day of surf lessons. We have beach volleyball games at sunset that are popular with people who want a little friendly competition. Every week, visitors take part in our Family BBQs, which feature locally sourced, freshly prepared meals that allow everyone to relax, connect and create memories.
Our Canggu camp also has a surf skate area, an ice bath and a rock climbing wall which can make your post surf recovery loads of fun as you spend the afternoons with fellow surfers as you unwind and reset for tomorrow's surf sessions. Kima’s facilities make a great inclusive environment, a place where everyone can connect in fun ways as well. At our Weligama Camp we also have an Ice Bath for unwinding.
At Kima Surf we also offer a 5 Day Learn To Surf Course for complete beginners to surfing. This course is done in small groups and its the ideal way to meet other travellers who share your interests and it is a great way to bond over a shared start to your surfing journeys!
Paddling, pop-ups and ocean safety are all covered and all the other basics, plus pool sessions and video analysis. If you are in our camp in Sri Lanka or at our surf camps in Seminyak or Canggu this course is your introduction to surfing, and you'll make some new friends in the process.
